What is a comparison version?

When revising its regulations, FIBA publishes, alongside the final text, a marked-up version in which deleted text and inserted text appear side by side. For determining exactly what has changed, this document is quicker and more reliable than manually comparing two complete texts.

Practical application

  1. Determining the version governing a caseWhere a dispute falls on the boundary between two versions, this document shows whether the rule relied upon existed at all in the earlier version.
  2. Arguing from the changeA change in the wording of a procedural rule may itself form the basis of an argument; the comparison version shows precisely which wording changed.
  3. Previous versionThe comparison document for the transition from May 2014 to January 2017 is also available on this site.

Who this document matters to

For counsel with a case before the BAT who needs to know which text was in force when the contract was concluded or the claim was filed. The full text of both versions is also separately available on this site.
