What these regulations govern

The regulations of the International Handball Federation (IHF) form a set of numbered chapters headed by the Statutes, each chapter governing one area. This document is Chapter XVIII of that set.

The commissions of the International Handball Federation, individually or in cooperation with one another, hold symposia on subjects falling within their area of responsibility. This document governs the conditions for holding them, registration, theoretical lessons and working groups, practical exercises, the supporting programme, certification and the allocation of costs.

Key points

  1. CertificationParticipants receive an IHF certificate; it is this certificate that serves as a training record in the advancement pathways for coaches and referees.
  2. Allocation of costsPart eight of the document determines which costs fall on the International Handball Federation and which on the participant or the host.
  3. Relationship with coaching educationThe coaching education regulations, in their edition of 12 August 2023, introduced the online education system and the four-level licence structure; symposia today take their meaning alongside that structure.
This chapter has not been revised since September 2007 and remains listed among the regulations in force in the appendix to the Statutes (edition of 21 March 2026). In practice it must be read alongside more recent regulations covering the same area.

Who this document matters to

For national federations hosting an IHF symposium or sending participants, this document is the basis for both parties' expectations and for the allocation of costs.
