What is the United World Wrestling Constitution?
The Constitution of United World Wrestling (UWW) is the federation's foundational instrument: it establishes its name, purpose and seat, enumerates the wrestling styles under its governance, sets out the conditions of membership for national federations and their rights and obligations, and organises the federation's organs — the Congress, the Bureau, the President, the continental councils and the commissions — together with the powers of each. The federation's seat is in Switzerland, and the other wrestling regulations, from the disciplinary procedure to the financial and licensing regulations, are all adopted on the basis of the powers defined by this instrument.

Features of this edition
- The federation's new name and identityThis edition presents the federation under the name "United World Wrestling" and affirms its ownership of the name, emblem, flag, anthem and all derivatives of that title. The federation's seat is fixed at Corsier-sur-Vevey, Switzerland.
- Styles under governanceThe three Olympic styles — Greco-Roman, freestyle and women's wrestling — and alongside them "other styles", comprising traditional, historical and regional styles, including beach wrestling and pankration, are placed under the federation's governance.
- Two categories of membershipAffiliated members are national federations that administer the Olympic styles, and only one federation per country is admitted; associated members are organisations that administer the other styles and have the right to take part in friendly competitions and invitational tournaments.
- Licence to take part in competitionsEvery wrestler taking part in an international competition must hold a valid federation licence and must have been registered by their national federation.
Who this document matters to
The Wrestling Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran is an affiliated member, and its rights and obligations — from the right to vote in the Congress to the conditions for suspension and expulsion — are defined in this instrument. For sports lawyers, the Constitution is the starting point for any case concerning the competence of UWW's organs: before relying on the disciplinary procedure or the regulations on change of nationality, one must establish from which article of the Constitution the organ in question derives its power. As a practical matter, each event is governed by the edition in force at the time it occurred; for that reason, earlier editions are kept available on this page.
